Microdosing Psilocybin

Microdosing means taking very small, sub-perceptual doses of a psychedelic – often psilocybin mushrooms – on a schedule.

Many people experiment with microdosing to support mood, creativity or focus, especially alongside functional mushrooms like Lion’s Mane and Reishi.

⚠️ Big disclaimer
Psilocybin is illegal in many countries. Nothing here is medical, legal or mental health advice. We do not sell psilocybin mushrooms or advise anyone to break the law.
Always research your local laws and speak to a qualified professional before changing medication or treatment.

1. Why people microdose

A lot of people online report benefits such as:

  • Smoother mood and less reactivity
  • Increased creativity or “flow”
  • Better focus and productivity
  • Feeling more connected and less stuck

There’s some emerging research, but it’s still early. Effects can vary a lot based on dose, mindset, environment and existing conditions.

2. Typical dosing ranges (for dried cubes)

When people talk about microdosing dried Psilocybe cubensis, they often mention:

  • Microdose: around 0.05–0.3 g
  • Mini-dose: around 0.3–0.6 g (more noticeable)

Again: this is not a recommendation, just a summary of common community practice.

3. Common schedules

Two popular schedules people use:

  1. Fadiman protocol
  • Dose day → 1 day on
  • 2 days off
  • Repeat
  1. Stamets stack (often with Lion’s Mane)
  • 4 days on
  • 3 days off
  • Combined with Lion’s Mane + niacin in some versions

Most people only run a protocol for a few weeks then take a longer break.

4. Stacking with functional mushrooms

Many microdosers combine tiny amounts of psilocybin with functional mushrooms such as:

  • Lion’s Mane – for focus and nerve support
  • Reishi – for stress, sleep and immune balance
  • Cordyceps – for energy and stamina

You can grow all of these at home with legal kits and then decide with a professional how (or if) they fit into your life.

5. Risks and cautions

Microdosing is not automatically safe for everyone:

  • It may not mix well with certain medications (especially SSRIs, MAOIs, antipsychotics).
  • It can destabilise people with bipolar disorder, psychosis or some mood conditions.
  • It can bring up buried emotional material, even at low doses.

If you struggle with mental health issues, do not self-medicate. Speak to a therapist, psychiatrist or doctor who understands psychedelics.
