(For use with all Small Kits — GT, B+, APE, JMF, etc.)
Included in Your Small Grow Kit
- 1x Fully colonised substrate block (ready to fruit)
- 1x Filtered grow bag
- 2x Paper clips for sealing the bag
What You Need
- Clean water (for misting/soaking if needed)
- Misting bottle or fine water sprayer
- Clean working area
Recommended but optional
- Gloves
- Face mask
- Surface disinfectant
- Thermometer / hygrometer
- Heating mat (for colder rooms)
🌱
Before You Begin
- Prepare a clean space Wipe down the surface where you’ll open and handle the kit.
- Wash or disinfect your hands Gloves are helpful but not required.
- Avoid drafts Close windows — airflow can carry contaminants.
- Do not breathe directly into the grow bag Try not to lean over it when open.
🍄
Starting Your Small Grow Kit
- Unpack the kit Remove the grow bag and paper clips. Take the fully colonised substrate block out of the box.
- Open the grow bag Place the substrate (still in its tray/tub) inside the bag with the filter patch facing upward.
- Fold + clip Fold the top of the bag and secure it loosely with the paper clips. The filter will provide all necessary air exchange.
- Provide light + temperature
- Indirect light (not direct sun)
- Ideal temperature: 20–24°C
- Minimum: 18°C
- If the room is cold, a heating mat on low can help.
- Wait for pinning Small pins usually appear within 7–12 days depending on the strain and environment.
- Phase 2 — Slightly open the bag Once pins grow into small mushrooms, open the bag slightly to allow gentle evaporation. (Evaporation is a natural trigger for fruiting.)
✂️
Harvesting
Harvest when the veils begin to tear or when you see caps opening.
Use clean hands or gloves; gently twist and pull.
💧
Second & Third Flushes
Small kits usually produce 2–3 flushes, with the first being the largest.
After each harvest:
- Fill the tray/block with clean water.
- Soak 8–12 hours.
- Drain fully.
- Place back into the grow bag and continue as before.
👀
Side Pins / Mushrooms on the Sides
This is perfectly normal.
If needed, gently tip the cake out onto clean hands, pick the side fruits, and return it to the container before soaking.
⚠️
Contamination
If the block turns green, black, red, grey, or yellow, it is contaminated and should be discarded.
Do not attempt to eat anything from a contaminated kit.
🌡️
Environment Tips
- Mushrooms only need ambient light, not direct sunlight.
- They grow best with fresh air, humidity, and stable temperatures.
- If no pins appear after 14+ days, check temperature and humidity levels.
🔄
Storage
If you do not start immediately, small kits can be stored in the refrigerator (2–8°C) for up to 2–4 weeks in a sealed bag.
